Cala Ratjada is situated in the administrative district of Capdepera in the North-East of Majorca. This locality is bounded by the bay of Cala Agulla to the north and by the bay of Cala de sa Font to the south. The literal translation of Cala Ratjada is „bay of rays“. The name comes from the fishing port which is the second largest of Majorca after the fishing port of Palma. After the construction of the harbour in the 17th century, the fishing was specialised in lobsters and rays. Nowadays the old fishing port is the centre of life with many restaurants and bars.
In spite of the move-in of the tourism the original fishing locality has not lost its original charm. Also the surrounding landscape is one of the most attractive of the North-East of the island, embossed by pine forests and plantations of olive trees and lemon trees.
