In the last years the south-west of Majorca did undergo a booming development and meanwhile it ranks among the international top-addresses. From the capital Palma you reach in less than half an hour the fantastic region around Port d’Andratx, one of the most beautiful natural harbours in Europe. Nestling in the foothills of the Sierra Tramuntana, this particular region is captivating by its excellent climate. As the mountain range spans over the complete west coast, it protects the south-west of the island against the European winter. This caters for yearly 300 gorgeous days of sun, accompanied by enjoyably mild temperatures.
Port d’Andratx is an idyllic harbour which has been fortunately untroubled by the mass tourism. The particularity of this fishing village is the charming mixture of the aboriginal Majorcan culture and the international flair by means of the foreign influences of the vacationers and the residents. Exclusive fashion boutiques and cosy cafes and restaurants line up on the waterfront, where you can enjoy the gorgeous view onto the marina „Club de Vela“. In the meantime the Majorcan fishers, unperturbed by the events around, hold down their traditional job and return every evening from the sea to the close-by fishing harbour. The colourful goings-on in Port d‘Andratx is surrounded by a spectacular scenery: the mountains of the Sierra Tramuntana, the valleys with citriculture and the lowlands with fertile fields are only a small sample of the unforgettable places in this region.
